Dr McRae has been the program lead for the breast reconstruction team at St Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton since 2016. We are an established major referral centre for breast cancer reconstruction in Ontario. All forms of breast reconstruction are available to patients here from implant based reconstruction to microvascular free flap reconstructive surgery using patients own tissues.
Breast reconstruction improves quality of life in all parts of life including physical, mental, emotional and sexual well-being. Reconstruction improves how women feel about their body and body image. Women who choose reconstruction have high levels of satisfaction no matter the technique that is chosen.
We are constantly looking to improve how breast reconstruction is performed. Our breast reconstruction patients and research team are an important part of this effort.
